Performance-Based Logistics (PBL), time and again, has proven to be an
effective logistical tool if used properly. While leaders throughout the military
and defence industry are looking to PBL to reduce costs, increase efficiency,
and raise the bar for quality and readiness, it is essential that the logistics
community, even those in private and commercial sectors, be current and
familiar with the processes necessary to introduce or implement effective and
efficient PBL initiatives.
PBL is the Department of Defense’s (DoD) preferred approach in acquiring
systems support. The objective is to improve operational capability while
reducing costs. Successfully implementing PBLs presents many challenges.
Significant challenges including developing a collaborative environment
among the stakeholders, overcoming organisational transformation
issues, and effectively implementing performance-based contracts in a
highly regulated environment.
While PBLs evolved from Supply Chain Management the concepts and
practices are now prevalent in many industries. The training course will first
provide an introduction to the field of logistics and supply chain management
principles that drive performance. Techniques, technologies, and metrics will
be presented that support military/business operations and provide effective
measurement and feedback.
The objective of the workshop is to provide the attendee with a detailed
understanding of how of PBL contract works. An implementation methodology
will be presented with supporting case studies and examples will highlight
product support strategies based on various phases of a product’s life
cycle. The course will conclude with useful techniques that can facilitate the
transformation effort in order to help overcome organisational cultural issues
and list the various lessons learnt.
